A blank chat window can feel surprisingly unhelpful. You can ask almost anything, which makes it hard to decide what to ask first. A better starting point is a small piece of work you already understand: organising meeting notes, rewriting a rough email, or turning an outline into a checklist.

Find a task with a visible finish line

Choose work that happens often and has a result you can inspect. “Help with marketing” is too broad. “Turn these five approved product facts into three short email subject lines” gives you a manageable input and a clear output. Begin with material you are permitted to share and remove personal or confidential details.

Write down the handoff

A useful workflow has three parts: what you supply, what AI produces, and what you check. For meeting notes, the input is your notes, the output is a draft action list, and your check is whether every action actually appears in the notes. An unassigned task should stay unassigned; a polished guess is still a guess.

A PROMPT TO TRY
Using only the notes below, create a draft action list. For each action, include the task, owner, and deadline if explicitly stated. Write “not specified” for missing details. Keep decisions separate from suggestions. End with questions I need to resolve.

Notes: [paste your notes]

Run it three times before expanding

Try the same approach on three different sets of notes. Note what needed correction and whether checking the output took less effort than doing the task yourself. If owners are repeatedly invented, make that limitation explicit and check it first next time. A repeatable improvement is more useful than one impressive answer.

Keep the final decision with you

Copy the verified actions into your usual work system yourself for the first few runs. Only consider automating that step once you understand common mistakes and have a way to catch them. The goal of this first experiment is modest: one task that becomes easier without making the result harder to trust.
